New Jersey DUI enforcement ramps up for 4th of July weekend

This weekend, many New Jersey residents will be celebrating the Fourth of July holiday with picnics, BBQs and beach parties. If you are one of them and plan on celebrating with alcohol, remember that the holiday is also synonymous with DUI citations.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the state will be joining efforts over the weekend in order to crack down on as many suspected drunk drivers as possible. When drivers are arrested and charged with drunk driving, they not only face significant fines, they also face jail time, a driver’s license suspension and many other serious consequences.

How to avoid a DUI

Of course, the best way to avoid a DUI is by not drinking and driving. If you plan to celebrate the Fourth of July with alcohol, make sure to arrange a sober ride home in advance. However, sometimes police can be overzealous in their crackdown efforts and can make unwarranted arrests.

In any case, it’s important to talk to an experienced criminal defense lawyer after being accused of drunk driving. You should speak with a lawyer who will not only represent you in your criminal case, but also help you address your license suspension, which involves a separate hearing.

You need a lawyer who will thoroughly examine the facts of your case in order to find any weaknesses in the prosecution’s evidence. Even if you failed a breath test, there is still a chance that the results of the test can be questioned.

With all of that said, have a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend!
