New Jersey Criminal Appeals Attorney

If you have been convicted of a crime, it may be a good time to consider hiring a new attorney to handle your appeal. Whether or not your current attorney was diligent in handling your criminal charge, a new perspective on your case may be what is needed in order to defeat your prison sentence. If you would like to speak with an experienced criminal defense lawyer about reducing an excessive sentence, issues with the jury, discovery of new evidence, or prosecutorial misconduct, I am ready to speak with you today. My name is Anthony N. Palumbo, criminal defense lawyer at the law firm of Palumbo & Renaud and I would be happy to discuss your case with you in a Free Consultation at 1-866-664-8118. Together we can go over the facts of your previous trial and I will provide you with legal advice as to whether an appeal is the best avenue in your defense.

New Jersey Appeals Process

If you have been convicted of a crime then you have the right to appeal. In order to file an appeal you must file a notice of appeal with the city clerk's office. Then you must obtain the transcripts from your trial and mail them to both the court and to the prosecution. You must then write an appellate brief explaining why the judgment is improper. Not all reasons will be deemed grounds for an appeal so it is important to speak with an experienced lawyer to determine whether an appeal is right in your case. The rules which apply to the appeals process depend on the crime or offense for which you were convicted. For example, if you were convicted of a traffic offense in municipal court, you have 20 days to file an appeal, but if you were convicted of a crime in county court, then you have 45 days from the day the final judgment was entered to file the appeal. Thus, if you feel an appeal is warranted in your case you should not hesitate to speak with an experienced appeals attorney.
